ROWAN OAK sind so Mid-90s-Emo wie es eine 2012 gegründete Punkrock-Band eben sein kann: prinzipiell gar nicht. Fern davon allerdings hört man der Band ihre Wertschätzung für The Appleseed Cast, The Get Up Kids oder Texas Is The Reason in jeder Harmonie und jedem Akkord an. Monotone Rhythmen und Laut-Leise-Schemata erzeugen Sog, ein pulsierender Jason-Black-Bass und ein Schlagzeug zwischen Sturm und Drang schaffen Dynamik - alles mit einer gehörigen Portion Schwermut.

Was der Band 2012 ein Bedürfnis nach simpel gestricktem Punkrock Marke Alkaline Trio war, ist 2014 ein grundsolides Selbstverständnis für Melancholie. Im Winter 2013 schloss sich das Quartett für ein Wochenende in die Kaputtmacher Studios in Bochum ein und Jochen Stummbillig (u.a. Fjort, Goodbye Fairground) zauberte der Band einen warmen Sound, den The Jazz June anno 1997 nicht besser hinbekommen hätten.

Nach einem internen Auf und Ab ist diese 3-Song EP „It’s Hard To See You Clearly“ der Anfang einer neuen Kontinuität. Ein vertontes „Light in August“ und ein kleiner, weiterer Mosaikstein im Buzz des gegenwärtigen Emo-Revivals.
